Staying warm at the game: Sir Alex Ferguson’s interesting approach to wearing hats

There’s no way you can be suitably indignant at the referee’s refusal to blow his whistle to award your side a penalty if you can’t hear his whistle properly in the first place. Best to keep your ears out in the open at all times.

That seems to be the philosophy of Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson, who kept his hearing completely muffle-free by leaving his lugs on display during yesterday’s 1-1 draw with Spurs.

It’s a look previously only favoured by Steve Zissou in The Life Aquatic, but one that we reckon Fergie can pull off rather well.

Perhaps he keeps his little black book of incorrect refereeing decisions under there!
