Helen Turner – the Manchester City bell ringer

Manchester City will be trying to win the League Cup for the first time since 1976 when they face Sunderland at Wembley on Sunday.

When they last won the competition 38 years ago – against north-east opposition in the shape of Newcastle, if you’re a fan of omens – things were a bit different.

For instance, as they completed a lap of honour after lifting the trophy, City’s players were joined on the pitch by superfan Helen Turner (aka the Manchester City bell ringer).

In an act that probably have landed her a banning order these days, Helen was invited onto the pitch to join the celebrations, sharing the trophy with Asa Hartford as City received the acclaim of the
Wembley crowd. You can see footage of that in the video below.

Of course, some things never change: the lad next to her in the picture to the right is looking very smart in his City scarf.

I have just read you artical above and whis to add that I am the lad in the picture and Helen was my granmother, and if you listen carefully today you can still hear the bell as we allow a few trusted fans from the Bluebells supporters club to ring it at home and away matches
