Colo Colo 73 by Oscar Chavez

This excellent piece of art was commissioned as part of the Campeones de Estampa art project, which involved 37 artists producing work celebrating Colo Colo, one of Chile’s most successful clubs.

Some of the artists were local, others international. Oscar Chavez falls into the former category and he produced this outstanding piece.

The print proclaims that Colo Colo’s 1973 team “were able to unite the people for 90 minutes”.

The piece is in the style of the murals of the Brigada Ramona Parra, the Chilean Communist Party’s mural painting arm. Their most prominent murals were painted over in 1973 following Chile’s military coup, hence the significant of the point in Colo Colo’s history that Chavez has focused on.
