Savile Rogue stars in a crime thriller

Over the years, Savile Rogue scarves have been featured in newspapers, magazines, podcasts and on TV… but this might be a new one.

It turns out one of our scarves is the star of a crime fiction thriller.

Yes, we’re the neckwear of choice for Joao Zarca, murdered manager of Premier League side London City, in crime writer Philip Kerr’s recent book January Window.

Kerr’s thriller came out last October, but we’ve only just found out about our starring role thanks to a customer who had read the book and got in touch to find out if we knew we were in it – we didn’t.

Alas, poor old Zarca, who Kerr has revealed is inspired by Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho, is separated from his beloved Savile Rogue scarf in death.

Early in the book, describing the circumstances under which Zarco’s body is found, Kerr writes: “Of Zarco’s lucky club scarf – from a shop called Savile Rogue, it was made of cashmere – there was no sign.”

A few pages later, the club’s Ukrainian owner Viktor Sokolnikov rolls up wearing the scarf and the exchange you can see below plays out.

Thanks a lot to Philip for thinking of us and featuring us.
