Bleacher Report celebrate The Art of Beckham

While the man himself celebrated turning 40 by opening an Instagram account with a suitably dreamy black-and-white photo of him in a state of strategic undress, Bleacher Report marked David Beckham’s entering of his fifth decade of existence by creating a virtual art gallery in homage to the former Manchester United and England captain.

Having commissioned pieces by noted football illustrators such as Rory Martin, Gabriel De Los Rios, James White and Sebastian Domenech, Bleacher Report formed their #Beckham40 online gallery which went live over the weekend.

The various stunning digital interpretations document the ups and downs of Beckham’s ever-evolving career: from the despair of his red card at France ’98 to the jubilation of that free-kick against Greece; his marriage to Posh Spice to his impressive cavalcade of iconic and not-so-iconic (the peroxide cornrows) hairstyles over the years.

It’s a fitting tribute to a man who transcended his sport to become a global icon.
