The 5 Best Kits of This Year’s World Cup

The World Cup hotting up and some favourites to lift the trophy on the 15th July have already had to make their way home. With VAR doing its best to steal the headlines at this World Cup, we’ve decided to focus on the team kits and have rounded up our selection of the top 5 kits from this year’s tournament.

Nigeria (Home)

Nigeria’s home shirt is probably the most creative and colourful of all the kits on show. With white and light green chevrons dominating the torso of the shirt and black and white patterned sleeves providing a contrast, this shirt has been one of the fastest selling of the tournament so far. Made by Nike, the colourful design pays homage to their 1994 shirt.

England (Home)

England have kept their shirt classic this year, with a minimalistic white theme with red detailing confined almost entirely to the shirt’s collar. The shirt is also by Nike and features a rosette on the inside and the three lions crest on the right-hand side breast.

Colombia (Home)

Another colourful entry on this list, the Colombia home shirt is a bold yellow with a blue and red pattern running up the sides of the torso, the colour choice representing the country’s flag. Designed by Adidas, the shirt also features a motto across the back of the neck, translating to read, “United as one Nation”.

Switzerland (Home)

Switzerland’s Puma-designed home shirt is primarily red, with a line pattern covering the whole shirt that represents the country’s mountainous regions. Other details of the shirt include a re-imagined version of the country’s flag under the collar and a thick white band around the collar.

Japan (Home)

The design for Japan’s home World Cup shirt pays homage to their history and clothing craftsmanship. The shirt sees a dark blue background adorned by a series of vertical dashed lines in white, the pattern representing a traditional Japanese stitching technique called Sashiko, a folk embroidery practise that uses thick stitches to create a design. The shirt was made by Adidas and also features a black and red collar and the country’s flag and crest on the front.
